Taekwon-doist of the Week #5

Name : Alexander Khor

Age : 13

Profession : Student

Grade in TKD : 1st Degree Black Belt

Write-up on TKD : It seems like it was only yesterday when I first started practicing TKD. Similar to Xiu Ming (Taekwon-doist of the week#4), I was transferred from another centre before training under Mr. Chen MK. I started TKD when I was 7-8 years old. It was my mum who somehow dragged me into TKD when she heard the Xiu Ming was learning TKD as well or something like that.. Anyways, Mr.Chen is a great instructor although he can be a little cruel at times. When I transferred to train under Mr.Chen, he pointed out loads mistakes in my patterns such as my stances, especially my L- stance, my unnecessary movements and the most memorable one was when I stamped my feet when I did my pattern.. Thinking back, it was pretty awkward.. I remember getting light injuries every time I went for training when I was about to take my black belt 1st dan. It was after I took my 1st dan that I started to learn to guide juniors and help them in their techniques. Then, together with some of the students from other classes, we went to Selama for a competition in July 2008. There, I learnt many many new skills and techniques that I could use for free sparring. And then there was a demo at Ipoh Parade as I think for the opening of the National Tournament. That kinda completes my experience in TKD with lots and lots of missing details but hey, u can’t describe them all can u? So, in conclusion, TKD’s a great sport. So, for any people hesitating to join TKD ITF, my advice to you is, “GO AHEAD!” Believe me, you won’t regret it. And especially when you join Mr. Chen’s class (Anyhow he’s still my instructor.. I should help him out..) Haha..

Taekwon-doist of the Week #4

Name : Loh Xiu Ming

Age : 13

Profession :
Student

Grade in TKD : 2nd Degree Black Belt

Write-up on TKD : I started taekwon-do when I was only 6 years old. I learn taekwon-do because I wanted to know how to protect myself.I wanted to learn taekwon-do because I felt very impressed after watching some taekwon-do champions show off their special technique. I was actually training taekwon-do in another place then I changed to the instruction of Mr. Chen Mun Kit. After a while, I enjoyed taekwon-do really much. I actually wanted to stop taekwon-do after I got my 1st Dan but after a while, i decided to continue taekwon-do due to the fun of learning it.Until now, I never regretted my decision to continue taekwon-do. I have sustained some injuries during training but I still like taekwon-do. I feel that taekwon-do is a great sport. I have learned many valuable things and also learned to be a better person Taekwon-do has brought me closer with old friends and to know new ones as well. I am currently learning how to teach juniors. It has also help me to exposed myself to the public. For all those juniors, if anyone of you wants to be a black belt, you must train hard. I hope ITF can be known to all. I also hope that all newcomers will not hesitate to join ITF especially to join my instructor's class (give little bit credit to him too)

I also would like to thank Mr Chen, Mr Wan, Miss Chow, Mr Poh Keng Chong and all my taekwon-do friends. Thanks for all the encouragement !!!!!!!!!!
See all of you soon. (^_^)

Taekwon-doist of the Week #3

Name : Audrey Chan Chu Sien

Age : 15+

Profession :
Student cum Dancer

Grade in TKD : Green Belt and moving on :)

Write-up on TKD : I started TKD last year, yeah, around August or September i think. I decided to join TKD because last year TKD was classified as a uniform body in my school, and i needed to join a uniform body which do not require marching/outdoors sun-burning activities. TKD was the best choice because my dad encourages me to join TKD too. In fact, he wanted me to learn TKD since long time ago. He thought by learning TKD i will be able to defend myself when neccesary. I didn't learn TKD last time when my dad insisted me to join when i was young because i always thought that TKD is just terbalik from ballet. Ballet is so soft and graceful while TKD is totally not. When i just started TKD i was always scared that i will be used to the TKD styles and will affect my posture in ballet. HAHA. really la, not joking. =P . so, yeah, but now i loveee TKD. its fun . MUAHAHA. although i'm always scared of free sparring. but its the most important part of TKD. to train us to use what we've learnt? haha. so lastly, i need to thank my best friend amy aka snail girl to pull me in and learn TKD with her. last but not least, my handsome instructor (CMK: oooh la la! haha) which is the owner of the blog, Mr Chen Mun Kit. thanks for all the teaching and LECTURING. (always say i kill taufoo) ish. LOL. okay i still remember what he said

" when people ask you HOW ARE YOU, dont say you are fine. If you are JUST FINE then what about the handicapped? "

"so u must always say FANTASTIC when people ask you the question. "

"next time whoever answers me "fine" will have to push up 50 times! "

muahaha. thats him. evil rite. =P !

Taekwon-doist of the Week #2

This week, we'll have not one, but TWO Taekwondoist featured in Taekwondoist of the Week to make up for the missing article last week. Hurray! :) First one here's my buddy. Read on! And by the way, he's SINGLE and AVAILABLE. :P

Name :
Poh Keng Chong

Age : 25

Profession :
Postgraduate Student

Grade in TKD : 3rd Degree Black Belt

Write-up on TKD : Hi, I started my taekwon-do ITF training when i was in Standard 4. That time I joined just to have fun with friends. Later, I stopped my training for study purposes. This goes on and off for me until finally I was determined to get a black belt. After that, I didn't turn back...Soon after I got my black belt, I was REALLY exposed to the real ART OF TAEKWON-DO. I started to become an Assistant Instructor under my instructor, Mr. Colan Kong. He was an inspiring person. From the Taekwon-do culture, apart from learning the Art of Self Defence, I've also learned many things and that's how I've become the person that I am now. It changed me to become a more disciplined, patient, dedicated and self controlled person. Since I've become a member and as well as an instructor in Kelab Taekwon-do Visi, it gives me the opportunity to learn more and to build myself to be a better person. Thanks to Mr. Chen for giving me this wonderful opportunity.

Here, I would also like to pay my gratitude to all my fellow comrades, Mr. Colan Kong, Mr. Sitt, Mr Chen, Mr.Wan and others. Also my fellow
students in SMK POI LAM , SMK YUK CHOY and Tapian Gelanggang Ipoh. Thanks for all the support and encouragements. you are all
the best!!! long life ITF !!! aza aza fighting!!
